Recent Developments in Seismic Engineering Design

Session Leader in Beijing
Dr. Ray SU, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China.
Session Leader in Shanghai
Prof. Xi-Lin LV, Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction, Tongji University, China

Seismic engineering is an important engineering discipline which aims to protect both the natural and the man-made environments in a society from earthquakes by limiting their seismic risks to socio-economically acceptable levels. With the advances in seismic engineering design in the recent years, it is reckoned that a properly engineered structure does not necessarily have to be extremely strong or expensive. Essentially, it has to be properly designed or upgraded to withstand the seismic effects while sustaining an acceptable level of damage.

A total of five leading experts and engineers in this field will present their experiences and practice of seismic engineering design. Moreover, recent developments on performance-based design and associated construction technique in buildings and structures will also be discussed comprehensively.
