Use of Advanced Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composites in Construction

Session Leader in Beijing
Dr. J G DAI, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China.

Composite materials utilize two or more distinct base materials to produce a material that has properties better than either of the base materials. In the recent years, fiber reinforced polymer composites have been increasingly applied for structural load-bearing applications by the construction industry, and these composites have established themselves as viable and competitive options for both rehabilitation and retrofit of existing as well as newly built structures.

In this session, a number of reputed researchers and academics will present the latest developments and applications of these composites in construction. Moreover, advances in various mechanical properties of these composites under fire and blasts as well as seismic loadings will be highlighted.
